Community Spotlight: Kalamazoo MI

The Radisson Plaza Hotel & Suites in Kalamazoo...Image via WikipediaKalamazoo, the largest city in Southwestern Michigan, offers its residents more than a funny name. It is one of the oldest and unique towns in Michigan and in the Midwest.  Find out why:

University life:
Kalamazoo is home to both Western Michigan University, a large public university, and Kalamazoo College, a small liberal arts college.  The campuses literally border each other, and the huge mass of young students gives Kalamazoo a fresh and active community.

Businesses:
Unlike popular belief, many regions in Michigan have had booming businesses, including Kalamazoo.  It is home to two large and well hospitals Bronson and Borgess, and one of the fastest growing medical companies in the world, Stryker.

Songs: One of the most popular songs written by Glenn Miller, is I've got a Gal in Kalamazoo.  If you are unfamiliar with the song, you may know of a more recent artist, Ben Folds Five who wrote the song "Kalamazoo".

12.19.11 Real Estate News

Hi visitors,

Here are some of the most recent and most popular real estate stories of this month:

Real Estate Outlook
A bit of real estate good news?
Rates Fall To Record Lows
Expiring Tax Deductions

From what I've read, no one has any solid clue as to how the market will fare in the coming months and years.  Also regional real estate markets will be quite different from each other, which will simply add to the unpredictability and confusion of the market.

Community Spotlight: Corvallis Oregon

Corvallis is located in central western Oregon in the Benton County.  It is one of the larger cities in Oregon with a current population of 54,462.  The name Corvallis comes from the latin phrase cor vallis meaning "heart of the valley".  This makes perfect sense because it is situated right in the middle of the Willamette Valley, an area known for its natural beauty and its wine production.

The community of Corvallis mostly revolves around Oregon State University, which is the largest local employer and brings in over 20,000 students every year.  Other major employers include Samaritan Health Services and Hewlett-Packard.

The largest local event is da Vinci Days, which is a summer celebration of art, science and technology.  Some of the events include a film festival, live musical performances a kinetic sculpture race, and activities put on by Oregon State's science and engineering departments.

Corvallis has been ranked among the top 20 towns to live in the US by Outside magazine, so if you're ever thinking of living in Corvallis, check out these Corvallis homes for sale.
